The Department of Art History at the University of Chicago is seeking applications from doctoral candidates in Chinese art history from the United States, Europe, and Asia for its first University of Chicago/Getty Dissertation Workshop in Chinese Art History, funded by the Getty Foundation as part of its “Connecting Art Histories” initiative.
This is the first of four 12-day workshops hosted biannually on the University of Chicago campus and the University’s Center in Beijing during the 2018//20 academic years.
It is subject to the same constraints as the dissertation proposal committee.
The defense is normally scheduled by the student in consultation with their dissertation chair, generally at a time when the entire dissertation committee feels that the dissertation is in completed or near-completed form.
Physical theses can be viewed by appointment in the College Archives as these materials do not circulate.
Several works are online, available for educational research use.Upon successful completion of all of the above requirements, including passing the dissertation proposal defense, the student becomes a candidate for the Ph. degree, at which point the student starts working on their dissertation.Advancement to candidacy must occur by the end of the Spring quarter in the student’s fourth year in the program. The program seeks to nurture a generation of historians of Chinese art across historical eras and media in an intellectual environment that crosses continental, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries. To that end, the workshops provide an opportunity for advanced graduate students in Chinese art history from different institutions and countries to share their dissertation projects, discuss different methodologies and scholarships, hone their research and writing skills, and connect with senior experts in the field. The chair must be a faculty member in the Department of Linguistics. The final step before advancement to candidacy is the presentation and public defense of the dissertation proposal. This collection contains dissertations and theses produced by masters and doctoral students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.If you are a graduate student depositing your thesis or dissertation, please do this through the Graduate College at https://grad.illinois.edu/thesis/submit.If you have authored a dissertation or thesis in the past at the University of Illinois and would like to see it appear here or would like to open access to a dissertation or thesis already made available here, please fill out this form: https://illinois.edu/fb/sec/5935171 or contact [email protected] more information.Art and Design Arts, Entertainment and Media Management Capstone Projects Creative Arts Therapies (Dance/Movement Therapy)English Fiction Writing Interdisciplinary Arts Journalism Management Photography Click here to schedule an appointment.
